This morning was one of the many days that I said to myself, "I love my job!" I had the opportunity to meet with four of our talented and insightful third-grade students to talk about their hopes and dreams. Our third graders were recently learning about Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and they write their own "I have a dream" speeches. These four youngsters inspired me and I hope their ideas inspire you as well!
"I have a dream that one day, we all friends, will find a cure for diabetes.
I have a dream that one day we will find a cure for blindness so that people can see what a beautiful world we live in...so that people will not feel helpless.
I have a dream that one day the wars will end and peace will spread through the Earth.
I have a dream."
-J. N. grade 3
"I have a dream that everybody will not be judged for their UNUSUALNESS but for their ABILITIES.
I have a dream that children and adults will see a day where bullying never existed.
I still have a dream that people will solve their problems without any violence but with words instead.
I have a dream that the world will be filled with Peace. I also have hope that all people around me will share their dreams.
I have a dream."
-E. O. grade 3
"I have a dream.
My friends, I think some day our nation will rise up and prevent tax cuts and give money to the poor.
I have a dream.
I do not want higher tax cuts.
I have a dream that people will be fair.
I have a dream."
-L.B. grade 3
"I have a dream that soon children will not spend all of their time on technology. Instead, they'll spend their time outdoors playing in the sun.
I have a dream that soon there will be Peace on Earth and every child will be peaceful to others.
I have a dream that one day even kids with disabilities will achieve their hopes and dreams.
Above all, I have a dream that children get to spend more time with their families.
I have a dream."
-A. P. grade 3

Footwear
Just a reminder now that we are in the winter months...
Please be sure to send sneakers in with your child on days when they have physical education class. On snowy mornings, most children wear boots to school. For obvious safety reasons, we cannot allow children to participate in PE class if they do not have appropriate athletic footwear. By packing them a pair of sneakers, you can help us achieve our goal of 100% participation in PE classes.
Thanks for your efforts!

Monday Surprises From the Dad's Club!
We arrived at school yesterday to find a great surprise from our Memorial School Dad's Club! Over the weekend, they built the garden shed that was paid for by a generous grant from the Spaulding Trust Fund. The shed will be used to house tools and materials for our school vegetable garden. If you are interested in helping out with the Dad's Club, email Mike Ray (mray44@hotmail.com) or Pat Meehan (patric_meehan@yahoo.com) to get on their distribution list.
These gentlemen are nothing short of amazing! The team for this project consisted of Jim Bothwell, Andrew Cox-Stavros, Dave Cressey, Dave Marletta, Dave Saulnier, and Joe Welsh. They plan to finish the roof this weekend, and then it will be ready for use!
Thanks again to Spaulding Trust and the Memorial Dad's Club!

Patriots Day!
Those of you who are fans of the New England Patriots know that our home team has a big playoff game on Sunday vs. The Houston Texans at 4:30 PM! To send good luck vibes in the direction of Foxboro, we will have Patriots Day on Friday where all students and staff are encouraged to wear red, white, and blue (please no face paint, props, or hair color).
GO PATS!
Morning Arrival
Reminder and Request from MMES Staff:
Please note that arrival time begins at 8:10 AM. This means that parents can drop students off as early as 8:10 AM. In addition, Manchester Parks and Recreation offers a great option for earlier dropoff called "Morning Gym" where children can play games in the gym or opt for more relaxed activities (ie. reading, board games, etc.).
Students arriving after 8:25 are considered and recorded as tardy. I ask for everyone's help in making sure that all students arrive to school on time.
When students arrive late for school, they miss extremely important instructional time. Our lessons begin promptly when the school day begins and being tardy even five minutes a day can cause a student to miss well over 15 hours of instructional time by the end of the year.
Perhaps as important is the disruption to the classroom that happens when a student arrives late for school. This disruption interrupts the learning of their classmates as the tardy student transitions into the classroom.
Please consider setting alarm clocks 10-15 minutes earlier if your child is typically a "later" arriver. It would be great if folks shoot to arrive at school closer to 8:10/8:15 as we have staff on duty at 8:10 to greet children. If you like avoiding lines of traffic, those who arrive at 8:10 will tell you that you will see minimal traffic at that time.
Thank you so much for your help in this matter as we work together to provide the best education possible for your children.
